This update includes the features described in the StrataWrite and StrataRead 4.0 previews. Availability depends on the app version, device, and enabled services.
This Privacy Policy applies to StrataWrite and StrataRead (collectively referred to as StrataSuite), research-focused applications for Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Protecting your privacy is important. This policy explains what data these apps handle and how it is used.
StrataWrite and StrataRead do not collect, track, sell, or transmit personal data to the developer.
Your library, including notes, manuscripts, PDFs, annotations, citations, and research assets, is stored locally or in your personal iCloud account. Online research lookups and optional connected applications have the data flows described below.
StrataRead keeps full-text search indexes, extracted working text, and caches in local app storage. Both apps use Apple services such as Spotlight, Siri, and Shortcuts for supported actions. Use of these services is governed by your device settings and Apple’s policies.
Built-in generation in the current 4.0 builds uses Apple’s on-device model where available. Direct Private Cloud Compute is not enabled for these features.
StrataWrite contacts Crossref or Open Library when you initiate supported reference lookups, and may retrieve citation-style resources from Zotero or the Citation Style Language repositories hosted on GitHub. Requests may contain bibliographic search terms, identifiers, a style identifier, or an optional Crossref contact email.
StrataRead may contact Crossref, OpenAlex, Open Library, or Google Books during import enrichment and requested metadata repairs. Requests may include titles, authors, DOI, ISBN, or ISSN values. Open-access PDF discovery can lead to downloads from a publisher or repository. Existing PDFs, notes, annotations, and extracted text are not uploaded to these metadata services.
Outside services receive ordinary network information, including your IP address, and handle requests under their own policies.
AI Connections is off by default. If you enable read access, compatible connected applications can request library content while the app is open. This includes full note and manuscript text in StrataWrite, and metadata, notes, annotations, indexed passages, and extracted PDF text in StrataRead. Making changes requires a separate permission.
The connection runs locally on your Mac. A connected AI application may send requested content to its own provider, subject to that application’s privacy policy, settings, and permissions. StrataWrite can also use StrataRead’s enabled local connection to retrieve source metadata on the same Mac.
The apps cannot verify the identity of every local program that attempts to connect. Keep the private connection address confidential. Turning off read access stops the connection and revokes change access; closing the app also stops its connection. Replacing the private address invalidates existing client configurations.
If you enable iCloud sync in any StrataSuite app, your data is stored securely in your personal iCloud account. Apple manages the encryption, transmission, and storage of this data. The developer does not have access to your iCloud-stored content.
StrataSuite apps do not include third-party analytics, advertising frameworks, or tracking technologies.

You retain full control of your data. You may delete notes, manuscripts, PDFs, annotations, and reading data directly within the apps at any time.
If iCloud sync is enabled, related data stored in iCloud can be managed or deleted through your Apple ID iCloud settings in accordance with Apple’s policies.
